US Oil Output On the Upswing
In 2012, oil production from North Dakota’s Bakken field is expected to surpass that of Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay. If these trends continue, production is expected to be up 1 million barrels a day by 2016.
Crude oil imports are falling, thousands of jobs are being created in oil fields from Texas to Ohio and from West Virginia to Wyoming. The US is starting to export diesel and gasoline and is expected to soon be exporting chilled natural gas.
The vast majority of these supplies is being released from shale by a process known as fracking. But environmental concerns abound and the industry will get a peek at the Obama administration’s intent this year.
